Rolewicz Homers, Drives in Five Runs
WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Washington College and Gordon College baseball teams combined for 37 hits today in a RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational game in Winter Haven, FL, and it was Washington who took advantage, winning the game, 14-10. The Shoremen evened their 2010 record at 3-3 with the win, while the Fighting Scots fell to 1-3 with the loss.
The score was tied at 5-5 before the Shoremen plated two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Freshman Joey Sliwka (Fallston, MD/Calvert Hall) drove in senior Brian Kramer (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) with an RBI double and scored on a single by sophomore John Rolewicz (Bear, DE/Salesianum).
Gordon got a run back in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-6 on a sacrifice fly by Ben Davidson, but the Shoremen got seven runs across in the top of the ninth to build a 14-6 cushion. The Fighting Scots scored four times in the bottom of the ninth, but could get no closer as Washington came away with the win.
Rolewicz went 3-for-4 with a home run, two walks, five RBI, and a run scored for the Shoremen, while freshman Sean Connole (Mt. Airy, MD/St. John's Catholic) was 4-fo-6 with three stolen bases and three runs scored. Boucher went 3-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Kramer was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Sliwka went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI. Sophomore Ben Jardot (McLean, VA/Flint Hill School) was 2-for-5 with a walk and and a run scored, while sophomore Ryan Normoyle (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Freshman Joe Kearney-Argow (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) got the win on the mound, allowing two runs - one of them earned - on six hits and one walk. Senior Chris Keiper (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) picked up the save.
Stephen Myhren was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and three runs scored, while Christopher Mills was 3-for-5 with a run scored for Gordon.
The Shoremen continue play in the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational tomorrow with a 2:30 p.m. game against Emerson in Winter Haven.
