Mount Aloysius Takes Twin Bill, 5-4 and 20-6
AVON PARK, FL - Mount Aloysius College swept a double-header from Washington College this afternoon at South Florida Community College as part of the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational. Mount Aloysius won the first game, 5-4, and took the second game, 20-6. The Shoremen dropped to 1-3 on the season with the two losses.
In game one, WC senior Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give the Shoremen an early 2-0 lead. The Mounties plated three unearned runs in the bottom of the second to pull ahead. Mount Aloysius scored its fourth run on an error in the fourth to go up, 4-2. Sophomore Ben Jardot (McLean, VA/Flint Hill School) hit a two-run double for the the Shoremen in the top of the fifth to even the score at 4-4, but Matt Cornetti homered in the bottom of the inning to lift Mount Aloysius to the 5-4 victory.
Bryan Nolan was 2-for-3 in the opener for the Mounties. Mike Goddisart got the win for Mount Aloysius, allowing four runs in five and two-third innings. Boucher went 3-for-4 for Washington with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Sean Connole (Mt. Airy, MD/St. John's Catholic) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Jardot was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 12-0 lead through three innings in game two and never looked back. Kyle Rose homered for the Mounties in the win and went 2-for-3 with two walks, four runs, and three RBI. Mark Speece was 4-for-5 with five RBI, four runs scored, and two doubles. Sean Steffy got the win for Mount Aloysius in game two.
Sophomore John Rolewicz (Bear, DE/Salesianum) went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for the Shoremen. Boucher was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game.
The Shoremen continue play in the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational tomorrow with a 2:30 p.m. game against Drew in Winter Haven.
