24, 2008 WASHINGTON, DC -- Host Catholic University pulled out a 23-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 15-9, win over visiting Washington College in non-conference volleyball action tonight at the DuFour Center. The Cardinals improved to 6-11 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 8-9 with the loss. Catholic scored five straight points in the decisive fifth set to make it 8-3 and led by at least four for the remainder of the set. Kim Ray had 11 kills and 13 digs for the Cardinals, while Michaela Carroll finished with 38 assists, five aces, and 13 digs. Lynn Brown added eight kills, two block solos and three block assists in the win. Junior middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/Middle River) pounded down 13 kills in the loss for Washington, while senior right-side hitter Trish McCarthy (Durham, NH/Oyster River) added 12 kills of her own. Senior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) recorded a match-high 31 digs, while senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) added 15 digs. The Shorewomen will host the Penny Fall Classic Saturday, taking on Mary Washington at 11:00 a.m. and Albright at 3:00 p.m. |
