Shorewomen Win Three at Quad Match
Ward Becomes First WC Player Ever to Reach 2,000 Assists

READING, PA -- Junior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) became the first Washington College volleyball player to ever reach 2,000 career assists as the Shorewomen won three matches today at Penn State-Berks. The Shorewomen (7-4) opened the day with a 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 28-26, win over Delaware Valley. Washington then bested Arcadia in five sets, 25-17,19-25,25-14,18-25,15-5, before sweeping Penn State-Berks, 25-20,25-16,25-18.

Ward tallied her 2,000th career assist in the third set against Delaware Valley on a kill by freshman outside hitter Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley). Ward finished the match with 42 assists, 20 digs, and three aces, while Forget racked up 16 kills. Senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) added 12 kills, 17 digs, and five aces, while sophomore middle hitter Maria Whitman (Galesville, MD/Southern) also had 12 kills. Senior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) and senior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) scooped up 19 and 14 digs, respectively.

Crum paced the Shorewomen against Arcadia with 19 kills against only three errors in 48 attempts. She also tallied 13 digs. Junior middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/Middle River) added 14 kills, while Brown had 24 digs. Whitman had two solo blocks and two assisted blocks against the Scarlet Knights. Ward handed out 56 assists as the Shorewomen pounded down 61 kills and hit .212 as a team in the match.

The Shorewomen's strong hitting continued against Penn State-Berks as they hit .217 as a team. Forget and Crum tallied 15 kills each, while Brown had 19 digs. Ward added 35 assists to bring her school-record career total to 2,109 assists.

The Shorewomen will play a Centennial Conference match at Haverford Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
