Shorewomen Split at Baruch Invitational
Washington Falls to Cabrini, Rallies to Beat Baruch

NEW YORK, NY - The Washington College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Baruch Invitational today in Manhattan. The Shorewomen (8-8) lost to Cabrini in their first match of the day, falling to Cabrini, 25-18, 25-17, 25-14. In Washington's final match of the tournament, the Shorewomen rallied after losing the first set to Baruch to beat the Bearcats, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 28-26.

Junior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) had 26 assists in the Shorewomen's loss to Cabrini, while junior middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/Middle River) registered eight kills. Lindsay Martin pounded down 12 kills against no errors in 20 attempts for the Cavaliers.

After dropping the first set against Baruch, the Shorewomen won the next two, but found themselves trailing in the fourth set, 20-13, before ending the match with a 15-6 run. Canada had 15 kills against Baruch, while senior right-side hitter Trish McCarthy (Durham, NH/Oyster River) had 12 kills and senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) added 11 kills and a match-high five service aces. Senior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) had a match-high 23 digs, while Ward recorded 40 assists. Nicole Baruffaldi had a double-double for Baruch in the loss with a match-high 16 kills and 16 digs.

Brown represented Washington on the All-Tournament Team.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. match at Catholic.
