20, 2008 NEW YORK, NY - The Washington College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Baruch Invitational Saturday in Manhattan. The Shorewomen (7-7) fell to Stevenson in their first match of the tournament, 26-24, 25-16, 25-15, and then lost to Colby-Sawyer in their second match, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22. Washington trailed, 24-18, in the first set against Stevenson before rallying to tie the score at 24-24. Stevenson's Alex Mercer then landed a kill that just touched the line to put the Mustangs in front. Stevenson then closed things out on the next point and carried that momentum into the next two sets. Senior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) had 14 digs for the Shorewomen, while senior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) added 13. Junior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) contributed 16 assists. Mercer finished with 12 kills against only three errors in 20 attempts for Stevenson. Against Colby-Sawyer, Brown tallied 13 digs, while Ward had 17 assists. Kristen Romanko had nine kills and no errors in 12 attempts for Colby-Sawyer. The Shorewomen will play Cabrini at 10:00 a.m. and Baruch at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow in the final day of the Baruch Invitational. |
