4, 2007 LANCASTER, PA -- Junior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) served eight aces as visiting Washington College cruised to a 30-21, 30-18, 30-8 non-conference volleyball win over host Lancaster Bible tonight in Lancaster, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 7-10 with the win, while the Chargers fell to 6-15 with the loss. Washington held a 5-4 lead in game two before breaking taking control with 10 straight points, four of them coming on aces by May. In game three, the Shorewomen held an early 3-2 lead and then scored 16 of the next 18 points to blow the game open. May's eight aces accounted for nearly half of the Shorewomen's 17 aces as a team. Sophomore setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) served five more of those aces to go along with 31 assists. Senior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) tallied 11 kills and 13 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. O'Brien is now 15 kills away from 1,000 for her career. Junior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) chipped in with 10 digs. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday when they host Muhlenberg and Delaware Valley in a tri-match. Washington will play Centennial Conference foe Muhlenberg at 12:00 p.m. and Delaware Valley at 4:00 p.m. |
