2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Adrienne Young posted a team-high 12 kills as Johns Hopkins downed host Washington College, 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-18), on Wednesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference volleyball action. The Blue Jays improve to 20-4 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen fall to 9-13 and 1-6 respectively. In the opening game, the Blue Jays broke open an 18-16 lead by scoring eight of the next nine points to take a 26-17 lead. In game two, Washington trailed 20-11, before rolling off five straight service points by junior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilimington) to cut the deficit to 20-16. Crum had three of her team-high four service aces during the run. Johns Hopkins would answer that rally with seven straight points of its own to grab a 27-16 bulge. In the third and final game, the Blue Jays won 16 of the first 20 points to take control. Young was one of four player to tally double-digit kill totals for the guests. Allison Cappelaere and Alex Zenoff had 11 kills each, while Natalia Fijalkowski tallied 10 kills. Amanda Lewis recorded a match-best 41 assists, while Kim Jackanich had a team-best 10 digs for the Blue Jays. Katie Buckheit led Johns Hopkins with four service aces. For the Shorewomen, senior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) registered her 11th consecutive double-double with a match-best 15 kills, to go along with 10 digs. Junior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) led all players with 15 digs. Junior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) was the third Washington player with double-digit dig totals with 10. Sophomore setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) dished out 26 assists. Johns Hopkins had a .296 attack percentage in the contest, while Washington hit just .047. Washington College returns to action on Saturday, October 20, against visiting McDaniel in a 1:00 p.m. conference tilt. |
