#12 Fords Halt Shorewomen, 3-0
Arielle Brown With A Match-High 15 Digs

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Rebecca Salvo had a match-high 15 kills and a team-best 14 digs as 12th-ranked Haverford defeated Washington College, 3-0 (30-10, 30-22, 30-25), in Centennial Conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center. The Fords improve to 15-0 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference on the season, while the Shorewomen fall to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

In the opening game, the Fords snapped a 2-2 tie with 27 of the next 33 points to seize control. In game two, Haverford jumped out to a 23-13 lead before Washington won eight of the next 12 points to cut the deficit to 27-21. However, the Fords won three of the last four points to win the second game. In the third game, the Shorewomen jumped out to a 10-5 lead on a kill by sophomore middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/Middle River). However, Haverford would win 11 of the next 12 points to take a 16-11 lead, and would extend the lead to 27-16 before a final Washington charge. The Shorewomen got it to 29-25, but the Fords won the next point and the match.

In addition to Salvo, Haverford also got a double-double from Emily Hinchcliff who had a match-high 41 assists and 11 digs in the victory. Dana Mullenhard had 11 kills and the Fords as a team hit .339 in the win.

Junior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) led all players with 15 digs. Senior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) had a team-high 11 kills for the Shorewomen. Sophomore setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) had 29 assists in the contest for Washington.

Washington College returns to action on Thursday, September 20, at Mary Washington for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
