12, 2007 LANCASTER, PA -- Maritza Fair and Margot Phelan recorded 11 kills a piece to lead host Franklin & Marshall to a 30-28, 30-15, 30-28, victory over host Washington College in the Centennial Conference volleyball opener for both teams tonight at the Mayser Center in Lancaster, PA. The Diplomats improved to 3-2 overall with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-5 with the loss. Phelan added 13 digs and three aces to her 11 kills, while Krysta Brown added one solo block and five block assists. Franklin & Marshall totaled 10 aces and nine team blocks in the match. Valerie Pusateri handed out 32 assists for the Diplomats. Senior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) posted her fourth straight double-double for Washington in the loss, finishing with 16 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) tallied 31 assists for the Shorewomen, while junior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) finished with eight digs and junior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) served both of Washington's aces. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday in a quad match hosted by Penn State-Berks. Washington will play Delaware Valley at 11:00 a.m., Arcadia at 1:00 p.m., and Penn State-Berks at 3:00 p.m. |
