8, 2007 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team dropped its final two matches, both in four games, at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic Saturday afternoon. The Shorewomen (2-4) dropped their first match of the day to Eastern, 30-24, 30-14, 26-30, 30-24, and then fell to Moravian, 30-22, 30-23, 21-30, 30-23. Senior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) recorded a double-double in each match for the Shorewomen. In the loss to Eastern, O'Brien totaled 14 kills and 19 digs. Junior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) contributed 23 digs, while junior defensive specialist Kay May (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) tallied 11. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Feeny (Upper Darby, PA/Villa Maria Academy) pounded down 10 kills, while sophomore setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) recorded 35 assists. As a team, Washington served 17 aces in the match, getting four each from May, Ward, and sophomore middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/James River). Against Moravian, O'Brien put up 17 kills and 16 digs. Brown added 26 digs, while Ward recorded 42 assists and Canada notched four block assists. Junior outside hitter Trish McCarthy (Durham, NH/Oyster River) added nine kills. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 7:00 p.m. match at Franklin & Marshall. |
