Shorewomen Drop Two at Battlefield
Brown Tallies Career-Best 29 Digs Against Trinity

GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team fell to 2-2 on the season with a pair of losses on the first day of the Battlefield Classic, hosted by Gettysburg College, on Friday. The Shorewomen lost their first match of the tournament to Scranton, 30-27, 30-26, 30-21, before falling to Trinity (CT), 30-16, 31-29, 29-31, 30-17.

Against Scranton, Washington kept things close in all three games until Scranton ended the third game and the match with a 10-2 run. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Feeny (Upper Darby, PA/Villa Maria Academy) pounded down 13 kills for the Shorewomen, while sophomore middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/James River) added 10. Junior libero Arielle Brown (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) contributed six kills against no errors in 11 attempts to go along with her eight digs. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Crum (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) served five aces, while sophomore setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) tallied 33 assists.

Trinity controlled the opening game against the Shorewomen before winning a nail-biter in game two. Washington picked up the third game by the two-point margin, but the Bantams scored the first 11 points of game four to win going away. Brown piled up a career-best 29 digs in the loss, while senior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) recorded 18 kills, 10 digs, and four aces. Ward added 37 assists, while Crum scooped out 10 digs.

The Shorewomen will play Eastern at 12:00 p.m. and Moravian at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Battlefield Classic.
