WC Falls To Villa Julie and Catholic
O'Brien With 37 Kills and 25 Digs and Ward With 89 assists In Two Matches

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team was downed by Villa Julie, 3-0 (30-28, 30-26, 36-34), and Catholic, 3-1 (30-20, 27-30, 30-25, 30-15), on Saturday afternoon at Cain Athletic Center in the 31st Annual Penny Fall Classic. In the third match, Catholic swept Villa Julie, 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-17). WC is now 3-14 on the season.

The Shorewomen lost three close games against Villa Julie in the first match of the day. Junior outside hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) led Washington with a match-high 17 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Trish McCarthy (Durham, NH/Oyster River) added 10 kills. Senior middle hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) had a team-high 21 digs and was one five Shorewomen with double-digit dig totals. Freshman setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) led all players with 44 assists the match.

For Villa Julie (10-6), Marisa Bender and Carol Moore each had 13 kills, while Julie O'Brien led all players with 29 digs. Katrina Loskarn had 41 assists and a match-high four service aces in the win for the Mustangs.

The Shorewomen fell to Catholic in four games. Washington College won the second game, 30-27. The fourth set was 17-13 Catholic, before the Cardinals closed out the set and match with a 13-2 run.

For the Cardinals (11-10), Whitney Dachelet and Kathryn Fisher had 19 and 16 kills respectively. Carey Anne Nassib had a match-high 19 digs to go with 10 kills, while Bethi Pritchard chipped in with 18 digs. Emily McGlynn registed 52 assists to lead all players.

O'Brien led the Shorewomen with 20 kills and 13 digs against Catholic. Kozemchak had 12 kills and 11 digs, while McCarthy chipped in with 11 kills. Ward led Washington with a career-high 45 assists. Four players had 10 or more digs in the match.

The Shorewomen return to action on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. with a Centennial Conference match at Haverford.
