October 16, 2004 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team split a pair of matches at Ursinus College this afternoon. The Shorewomen lost a non-conference match to Rowan, 30-28, 30-15, 30-23, but then rallied to defeat the host Bears in a Centennial Conference match, 25-30, 27-30, 30-17, 30-28, 15-8. The Shorewomen are now 14-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play this season. Freshman middle hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) pounded down 12 kills against only one error in 23 attempts against Ursinus. Junior outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) had a team-high 14 kills and 11 digs, while junior outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) tallied 11 kills and 13 digs and sophomore middle hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) recorded 10 kills. Sophomore setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) put up team-highs of 43 assists and 14 digs. Senior outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) added 10 digs, while junior middle hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) finished with a team-best five blocks (two solos, three assists). Ford led the Shorewomen in kills against Rowan with eight, while Shand paced the squad in assists and digs with 18 and 10, respectively. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Johns Hopkins. |
