October 2, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Richard Stockton College posted four three-game sweeps en route to winning the 29th Annual Penny Fall Classic, held last night and today at Washington College's Cain Athletic Center in Chestertown, MD. The Ospreys defeated Mary Washington, St. Mary's (MD), and host Washington College in pool play and then topped Mary Washington again in the championship match. The host Shorewomen went 1-3 in the tournament and are now 12-8 on the season. Tournament Results Friday, October 1st Saturday, October 2nd All-Tournament Team MVP - Kate Hahn - Richard Stockton Washington College Match Highlights In the Shorewomen's win over St. Mary's on Friday, sophomore outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) served five aces and pounded down eight kills. Freshman middle hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) notched 10 kills and eight digs, while sophomore setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty), who represented Washington on the All-Tournament Team, tallied 31 assists and seven kills. Junior outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) added nine kills in the win. The victory gave Washington 12 wins on the season, surpassing their win total from the previous four years combined. Washington fell to Mary Washington in the Shorewomen's second match on Friday evening. Senior outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) served four aces in the loss, while O'Brien added a team-best eight kills. Shand finished the match with 23 assists. The Shorewomen finished pool play Saturday with a loss to Richard Stockton. Kozemchak and O'Brien each tallied six kills, while Ford served five aces. Greenback and Kozemchak shared team high honors in digs with eight. The Shorewomen rallied from two games down to force a fifth game against St. Mary's in the third-place match, but the Seahawks held on for the win. Shand turned in her third triple-double of the season in the loss, finishing with 11 kills, 50 assists, and 14 digs. Kozemchak added 22 kills and four aces, while Ford pounded down 12 kills. McConville contributed nine kills, 10 digs, one block solo and four block assists. Washington is back in action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Haverford.
