October 30, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Muhlenberg College rallied to defeat host Washington College, 19-30, 30-25, 21-30, 30-19, 15-12, in a Centennial Conference match and the season finale for both teams this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. Muhlenberg finishes the season 11-14 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Shorewomen finish 14-15 and 3-6. Freshman middle hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) each turned in double-double performances for the Shorewomen in the loss. O'Brien tallied 12 kills and 17 digs and served three aces, while Shand put up 24 assists and 17 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) added 10 kills and five blocks (three solos, two assists) and junior outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) finished with 12 kills. Junior outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) contributed 15 digs. The Shorewomen's 14 wins this season equaled their win total from the previous five years combined. This year also marked the first time since 1994 that Washington won at least 10 matches in a season. |
