28, 2004 WESTMINSTER, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team suffered its first Centennial Conference loss of the season this evening, falling to host McDaniel College, 30-24, 30-13, 31-29, in Westminster, MD. The Shorewomen slipped to 11-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the loss, while the Green Terror improved to 5-7 and 2-0. Sophomore setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) tallied 28 assists for Washington. Junior outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) pounded down 11 kills, while junior middle hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) finished with eight kills. The Green Terror avenged a loss to the Shorewomen earlier in the season with a victory in tonight's match. Washington topped McDaniel in four games at the Maryland Division III Tournament on September 18th. The Shorewomen will host the Penny Fall Classic this Friday and Saturday. Washington's first match in the tournament will be against St. Mary's (MD) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night. |
