Diplomats Down Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team slipped to 14-14 overall and 3-6 in Centennial Conference play with a 30-24, 30-23, 30-20, loss to visiting Franklin & Marshall this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Diplomats, who will be the second seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs, improved to 20-9 and 9-1 with the win.

Junior outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) led the Shorewomen in both kills and digs in the loss with seven and 10, respectively. Sophomore setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) added a team-high 17 assists and eight digs, while freshman middle hitter Katherine O'Brien (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) recorded a team-best four blocks (two block solos, two block assists).

The Shorewomen will play their final match of the 2004 season on Saturday when they host Muhlenberg in a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference contest.
