October 12, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) served 11 of her team's 20 aces, including eight in the first game, to lead host Washington College past Bryn Mawr College, 30-18, 30-19, 30-19, in a Centennial Conference volleyball match this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Shorewomen improved to 13-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Owls slipped to 4-15 and 0-5. Washington trailed, 10-9, in the first game before siding out to tie the score at 10-10. Greenback then served 13 consecutive points, including eight aces, to give the Shorewomen a commanding 23-10 lead. Greenback scooped out a team-high seven digs to go along with her 11 aces. Junior outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) paced the Shorewomen in kills with 11, while sophomore middle hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and junior outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) each had seven. Junior middle hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) added six kills and three aces. Sophomore setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) put up 26 assists in the win. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday at Ursinus College. Washington will play the host Bears in a Centennial Conference match at 1:00 p.m. and then taken on Rowan in a non-conference match at 3:00 p.m. |
