WC Falls to St. Mary's in Four Games
McConville Pounds Down 17 Kills

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen dropped their final home match of the season this evening, falling to St. Mary's (MD), 30-15, 27-30, 30-26, 30-13. Sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) pounded down 17 of the Shorewomen's 36 kills in the match.

Washington (4-22) trailed St. Mary's (7-16), 16-10, in the second game before reeling off 14 straight points to take a 24-16 lead en route to winning the game. Sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) served 13 consecutive points in the run and drove home the game-winning kill. In game three, it was the Seahawks who pulled off a crucial run. The Shorewomen led that game, 26-19, before St. Mary's (MD) scored 11 straight points to win the game.

Seven of McConville's 17 kills came in game three, when she committed no errors in 11 attempts. Benson led Washington in digs with 13 and in service aces with five. Freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) tallied a team-high 23 assists and led the team in blocks with five solo blocks and one block assist. Senior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) added seven kills and five assists for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow as they travel to York (PA) for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
