28th Annual Penny Fall Classic

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Richard Stockton College went 3-0 in round robin play to capture the championship at the 28th Annual Penny Fall Classic held today at Washington College. Both Richard Stockton and Villa Julie College were 2-0 heading into their match against each other, the final for both teams on the day. The Ospreys claimed a dramatic 28-30, 30-25, 24-30, 30-27, 18-16 victory in that match to clinch the championship. Villa Julie finished in second place at 2-1. King's College was third at 1-2, while the host Shorewomen went 0-3 on the day.

Washington College Highlights
In Washington's first match, against Villa Julie, sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) pounded down a team-high eight kills and had one solo block, while sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) added seven kills and a team-best four service aces. Senior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) led the WC in assists with 12, while sophomore setter Kim Dannenfelser (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) had a team-high 14 digs. Freshman outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) had ten and nine digs, respectively.

Against Richard Stockton, Benson had a team-high 10 kills, while Ford had seven kills and a team-high three service aces. Freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) had a team-best 12 assists, while Orga had 11 assists and pounded down six kills with no errors. Dannenfelser led the team in digs with eight.

In the Shorewomen's final match, against King's, McConville led the team in hitting with five kills and no errors and served a team-best three aces. Shand paced the team in assists with 11, while Benson scooped out a team-high 16 digs. McConville and Shand each had one solo block in the match.

Both Ford and Benson represented the Shorewomen on the All-Tournament Team.

The Shorewomen (1-15) return to action Thursday with a Centennial Conference tri-match at Haverford against the host Fords and Bryn Mawr.
