WC Holds Hood to Nine
Fourth-Game Points in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team defeated Hood College for the second time this season and fourth time in a row this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Shorewomen (3-20) vanquished the Blazers (3-17) in four games, 30-21, 30-26, 28-30, 30-9. The nine points Hood scored in the fourth game marked the fewest points the Shorewomen have allowed in a 30-point game since rally scoring began in 2001.

After winning game one, Washington outlasted Hood in the second game, which featured nine ties, to go up two games to none. The Shorewomen then jumped out to an 11-2 lead in game three as sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) served nine straight points early on. The Blazers stormed back, however, and won the game on a block by Jessica Lertoura and Jennifer Jones. The Shorewomen controlled game four as Benson served 10 straight points to put WC up 20-7. Washington hit .467 as a team in game four on 16 kills, two errors, and 30 attempts.

Sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) led the Shorewomen with 18 kills and five solo blocks in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) served five aces, while Benson tallied four. Ford also finished with 14 kills, while senior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) pounded down 11 and freshman outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) contributed nine. Kozemchak and Benson shared team-high honors in digs with 12. Freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) finished with 30 assists and nine digs.

The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday when they host Franklin & Marshall and Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference tri-match.
