10, 2003 FREDERICK, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team picked up its first win of the season in dramatic fashion this afternoon, topping host Hood College in five games. The Shorewomen, now 1-8 on the season, recorded their third consecutive win over the Blazers. Match scores were 30-22, 21-30, 30-25, 26-30, 15-6. Senior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) notched a career-high 21 kills in the match to go along with seven assists and three service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) added 12 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) and freshman outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) each tallied 11. Benson added 13 digs, while Kozemchak had six. Freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) recorded 22 assists in the win and scooped out five digs. Sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) led the team in blocks, contributing one solo block and one block assist, and served a team-high five aces. Sophomore setter Kim Dannenfelser (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) had a team-high 15 digs. The Shorewomen return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Asics Maryland State Tournament, hosted by Johns Hopkins. |
