WC Downs Swarthmore in Five Games
Shorewomen Split Tri-Match

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen split a pair of Centennial Conference matches today at a home tri-match. The Shorewomen (4-21 overall, 2-5 Centennial) bested Swarthmore in the day's first match, 30-23, 30-25, 30-32, 28-30, 15-8, but lost to Franklin & Marshall in the final match, 30-18, 30-13, 30-19. F&M defeated Swarthmore, 26-30, 30-21, 30-19, 31-29, in the second match of the day.

The win over Swarthmore was Washington's third in a row over the Garnet Tide. Freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) tallied 26 assists, nine kills, five solo blocks, and one block assist against Swarthmore. Sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) pounded down 10 kills, scooped out 20 digs, and served five aces. Sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) finished with 12 kills, three solo blocks, and one block assist, while senior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) contributed 11 kills, 14 assists, and 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) recorded nine kills and 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) tallied nine kills, 16 digs, and four aces.

Against F&M, Orga and Shand each had four kills and combined for 10 assists. Benson recorded 14 digs, while McConville had two solo blocks and one block assist.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. match against St. Mary's (MD).
