2, 2003 HAVERFORD, PA -- The Washington College Shorewomen battled back after losing the first two games to defeat Bryn Mawr College, 24-30, 24-30, 30-27, 32-30, 19-17, in the second match of a Centennial Conference tri-match this evening at Haverford College. In their first match of the tri-match, the Shorewomen fell to Haverford, 30-26, 30-28, 30-18. After several match point opportunities for each team, the Shorewomen (2-16, 1-1 Centennial), completed their comeback against Bryn Mawr when freshman outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) pounded down the match-winning kill. Sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) came up big against the Owls, driving home 19 kills and recording seven solo blocks and four block assists. Freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) added 30 assists, nine digs, four solo blocks, and four block assists, while Kozemchak finished with nine kills, 18 digs, and four block assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Kim Dannenfelser (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) paced the Shorewomen in digs with 25, while sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) served a team-best four aces. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) tallied 12 kills and seven digs. Against Haverford, Shand tallied 16 assists and pounded down eight kills with only two errors. Benson added a team-high 10 kills, while Dannenfelser served a team-high three aces and recorded a team-high 14 digs. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. match at Philadelphia Biblical. |
