11, 2003 ALLENTOWN, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team lost a pair of Centennial Conference volleyball matches this afternoon at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. In their first match, the Shorewomen fell to Gettysburg, 30-17, 30-14, 30-23, and in their second match, the lost to Dickinson, 30-18, 31-29, 30-19. Against Gettysburg, freshman setter Laura Shand (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) led Washington with 12 assists and two solo blocks and her four kills gave her a share of team-high honors with senior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) and sophomore middle blocker Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster). Sophomore outside hitter Abigail Benson (New London, PA/Avon Grove) served a team-high three aces and scooped out nine digs. Freshman outside hitter Nanna Kozemchak (Falls Church, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) had a team-high 12 digs, while Orga and sophomore defensive specialist Kim Dannenfelser (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) each tallied eight. In the match against Dickinson, McConville tallied team-highs of eight kills and three solo blocks, while Shand finished with 17 assists, five kills and team-highs of three solo blocks and 14 digs. Kozemchak equaled Shand's team-high of 14 digs and also contributed five kills and two solo blocks. Dannenfelser tallied seven digs and served one ace, while Benson and sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) each had five kills. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. home match against Hood. |
