2, 2002 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team came up just short of securing its first Centennial Conference win of the season this evening, falling to host Ursinus College in five games. The Shorewomen (3-18, 0-3 Centennial) won the opening game, 31-20, but the Bears took a 2-1 lead after winning games two and three, 30-18 and 30-23, respectively. WC then forced a fifth and deciding game with a 30-22 win game four. The Bears (7-9, 1-0) won the fifth game by a 15-10 count. WC sophomore outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) finished with a team-high 22 digs and eight kills in the match. Freshman middle hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) pounded a team-high 12 kills, while senior middle hitter Katie Froning (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) tallied eight. Junior defensive specialist Lindsay Tegeler (Baltimore, MD/Mt. Carmel) recorded 17 kills. Junior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) contributed 13 assists. The Shorewomen return to action a week from tonight with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial match at McDaniel. |
