WC Wins First Sweep Since 1997
Sixteen Aces Lead to Win Against Swarthmore
POMONA, NJ -- The Washington College volleyball
team swept an opponent for the first time since November 1997 today,
defeating Swarthmore, 30-27, 30-26, 30-27 at the Richard Stockton Tournament.
The Shorewomen went 1-2 overall at the event and are now 2-10 this season.
Richard Stockton 3, Washington 1 (30-14, 19-30, 30-21, 30-19)
The Shorewomen picked up a game against the host team in their first
match of the day. Freshman outside hitter Abby Benson (Avon Grove,
PA/Avon Grove) tallied eight kills, four service aces, and 20 digs
in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South
River) finished with six kills and 14 digs, while freshman middle
hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) contributed
eight kills. Senior setter Amy Milauskas (Ellicott City, MD/Seton
Keough) added 14 and junior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline
Academy) had 10 assists. Junior defensive specialist Lindsay
Tegeler (Baltimore, MD/Mt. Carmel) finished with 26 digs. WC

Sixteen service aces, inlcuding four each from Benson and Greenback,
propelled the Shorewomen to their first-three game sweep since dropping
Catholic, 15-6, 15-9, 15-8, at the Messiah Tournament on November 1st,
1997. Greenback also contributed seven kills and 12 digs. McConville
nailed a team-best 13 kills in the match, while Tegeler chipped in with
12 digs. Orga tallied 17 assists. WC

The Shorewomen lost in three games to 2001 NCAA Tournament participant
Catholic in the third-place match. McConville and freshman outside hitter
Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) tallied five kills each.
Junior outside hitter Theresa Pyzik (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) contributed
11 digs, while Tegeler added 10. WC

with a 7:00 p.m. match at Hood.
