26, 2002 CARLISLE, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team split a pair of matches at a Centennial Conference tri-match this afternoon at Dickinson College. The Shorewomen began the day with a 30-23, 30-16, 30-26 sweep of Bryn Mawr, but then fell to the host Red Devils, 23-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-24. Washington is now 5-23 overall this season and the Shorewomen finish Centennnial play with a conference record of 2-8. The win against Bryn Mawr, coupled with a 3-2 win over Swarthmore Wednesday, gave Washington back-to-back wins for the first time since 1999, when the Shorewomen topped Villa Julie and Haverford in consecutive matches at the Haverford Tournament on September 4th and 5th. Washington's five wins this season are the most the Shorewomen have tallied since 1997, when they won six matches. The Shorewomen earned a full third of their points against Bryn Mawr on service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) served up nine of those 20 aces and also added nine kills and 12 digs. Freshman middle hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) posted a team-high 10 kills against the Owls, while junior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) led the team in assists with 11 and freshman outside hitter Abbie Skibinski (Yorklyn, DE/Ursuline Academy) tied Greenback with a team-best 12 digs. WC made 10 total blocks (six solo, eight assisted) in the Bryn Mawr match, with McConville leading the way with two solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) and senior middle hitter Katie Froning (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) each tallied two solo blocks and one assisted block. Against Dickinson, Greenback put together another solid performance, finishing with eight kills, 17 digs, and five service aces. McConville posted a team-best nine kills, while Ford tallied seven. Junior defensive specialist Lindsay Tegeler (Baltimore, MD/Mt. Carmel) scooped out a team-high 19 digs, while senior setter Amy Milauskas (Ellicott City, MD/Seton Keough) tallied 17 assists. Froning served five aces. The Shorewomen will play their final home match of the season Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. against York (PA) College.
