WC Picks Up Win at Tournament,
Ends Non-Conference Skid at 73
GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College
Shorewomen ended a 73-match non-conference losing streak this morning
with a 30-24, 30-21, 26-30, 30-20 victory over Hood College at the Gettysburg
Battlefield Classic. The Shorewomen (1-7) finished 1-3 overall at the
two-day tournament.
Mary Washington 3, Washington College 0 (30-11, 30-27, 30-24)
The Shorewomen opened play in the tournament Friday evening against
Mary Washington, falling in three games. Sophomore outside hitter Laura
Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) finished with seven kills and three
service aces in the match, while senior setter Amy Milauskas (Ellicott
City, MD/Seton Keough) recorded 10 assists. WC

Moravian 3, Washington College 0 (30-12, 30-20, 30-17)
In WC's second game Friday evening, Greenback notched eight kills and
senior middle hitter Katie Froning (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett)
added six. Milauskas and junior setter Katie Orga (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline
Academy) each contributed 10 assists, with Milauskas adding 10 digs.

Washington College 3, Hood 1 (30-24, 30-21, 26-30, 30-20)
The Shorewomen took a 2-0 lead in winning their first non-conference
match since topping Haverford in five matches at the Haverford Tournament
on September 5, 1999. Freshman outside hitter Abby Benson (Avon Grove,
PA/Avon Grove) led the Shorewomen with 11 kills and five service
aces and also added 11 digs. Froning finished with 10 kills and 13 digs
in the match, while Orga added 18 assists, 13 digs, and four service
aces. Greenback contributed nine kills and four service aces and freshman
middle hitter Marcie McConville (Westminster, MD/Westminster) nailed
nine kills to go along with her team-high 17 digs. WC

Richard Stockton 3, Washington College
0 (30-17, 30-17, 35-33)
The Shorewomen dropped the first two matches by identical scores, but
pushed Richard Stockton to the limit in the third game, before falling,
35-33. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Ford (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty),
Benson, and McConville tied for team-high honors in kills with six each.
Milauskas paced the team in digs with 14, while Orga finished with 10

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with
a 7:00 p.m. match at Notre Dame (MD).
