3, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team dropped a 30-12, 30-22, 30-21 Centennial Conference home match to Western Maryland College tonight at Cain Gym. The Green Terror improved to 9-8 overall and remained unbeaten in the conference at 3-0 with its win over the Shorewomen (0-20, 0-4). Western Maryland cruised through the first game, but Washington took a 10-8 lead in the second. Western Maryland scored nine of the next ten points, however, to open up a big lead. The Shorewomen eventually cut the lead to three at 24-21, but could get no closer. The Green Terror maintained a steady advantage in the third match. Junior middle hitter Beka Beckett (Cordova, AK/Cordova) recorded four solo blocks for the Shorewomen. Freshman outside hitter Laura Greenback added eight kills for Washington, while junior middle hitter Katie Froning (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) served three aces. The Shorewomen return to action one week from tonight with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial match at Johns Hopkins. |
