Shorewomen Post First Win of 2001
Greenback Powers WC Past Mawrters

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team picked up its first win of the season today by defeating Bryn Mawr in five games. The Shorewomen (1-25 overall, 1-9 Centennial) notched the victory during a Centennial Conference tri-match at Cain Gym. In Washington's other match, the Shorewomen fell 3-0 to Dickinson.

Washington College 3, Bryn Mawr 2 (15-30, 30-19, 30-25, 22-30, 15-12)
Freshman outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) recorded three career-highs by driving home 27 kills, hitting .375 and serving 10 aces in the victory. Junior setter Amy Milauskas (Ellicott City, MD/Seton Keough) tallied a season-best 42 assists and five services aces, while junior middle hitter Katie Froning (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) added eight kills, four aces, ten digs, and two solo blocks. Froning also served the final three points of the match. Her first serve, with the score tied 12-12, ended on a kill by Greenback. Her next serve took WC to match point with an ace. Her final serve was received by Bryn Mawr, but the Mawrters could not send the ball back over the net. WC MATCH STATS

Dickinson 3, Washington College 0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-14)
Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Pyzik (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) notched a team-high seven kills, while Greenback tallied six. Pyzik also added three solo blocks. Milauskas contributed 18 assists. WC MATCH STATS

In the day's other match, Dickinson posted a 30-15, 30-15, 30-16 win over Bryn Mawr.

Washington returns to action Monday with a 7:00 p.m. home match against Notre Dame (MD).
