22, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College volleyball team dropped a 30-26, 30-16, 30-24 home match to Notre Dame (MD) tonight at Cain Gym. The Shorewomen (1-26) will play their final home match of the season Thursday against St. Mary's (MD) at 7:00 p.m. The score was tied in the first game at 19-19, before the Gators reeled off five straight points to take the lead. The Shorewomen cut the lead down to two points, but could not rally past Notre Dame. The Gators controlled game two from the start, jumping out to a 9-2 lead. The third game was tied 10-10 before Notre Dame put together another run to go up 15-10 and eventually built a 22-14 lead. Following a Gator sideout, Washington freshman outside hitter Laura Greenback (Riva, MD/South River) served three consecutive aces to pull the Shorewomen to within four at 22-18, but WC never got closer than that. Greenback finished the match with 11 kills to go along with her three aces, while junior setter Amy Milauskas (Ellicott City, MD/Seton Keough) contributed 26 assists and three aces of her own. Junior middle hitter Katie Froning (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) tallied three solo blocks. |
