WC to Open Spring Ranked 9th in Region
Finnegan & Marshall Ranked 10th in Doubles

SKILLMAN, NJ -- The Washington College women's tennis team will open the spring season ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has released its fall 2009 rankings and the Shorewomen were tabbed as one of the region's top teams. In addition, sophomores Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) are listed as the region's 10th-ranked doubles team.

The Shorewomen went 17-5 overall and 8-2 in Centennial Conference matches last spring. Their school record-breaking 17th win came in the Centennial Conference Semifinals, a victory which advanced them to the Centennial Conference Championship match for the second time in four years. In addition to returning their top two players from last year in Finnegan and Marshall, the Shorewomen also welcome back graduate student Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School), who went 45-21 in singles and 48-18 in doubles in her first three seasons before redshirting her senior year due to injury.

Finnegan and Marshall went 19-4 overall in doubles last season, including an 18-3 record at No. 1 in dual-match play. Finnegan also went 17-4 in singles last spring and earned All-Centennial Conference honors in singles, while Marshall was 19-4 and was named to the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team. The two split time at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. This fall, they advanced to the quarterfinals of doubles at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
