Shorewomen Blank D-I UMES, 8-0
Washington Wins Every Game at Every Flight

PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- Visiting Washington College did not drop a single game en route to an 8-0 blanking of Division I host Maryland-Eastern Shore in a women's tennis match played in cold and windy conditions today in Princess Anne, MD. The Shorewomen improved to 2-1 on the season with the win, while the Hawks, who played with just five players, fell to 0-2.

With just five players, Maryland-Eastern Shore defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles to give the Shorewomen two points. Junior Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and junior Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) beat Fatoumata Ba and Bolanie Abioye, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, while senior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and freshman Kristine Depew (Downingtown, PA/Westtown School) won by an identical score over Brigette Squire and Christine Bermudez at No. 2.

Fifth singles was played during doubles as WC junior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) shut out Whitney Pullen, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, to clinch the match for the Shorewomen. With the match decided and the high winds hampering conditions, the remaining singles matches were played as pro sets. Daciek defeated Ba at No. 1, Bull beat Abioye at No. 2, and freshman Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) was a winner over Squire at No.4, all by 8-0 finals. Third singles was not played.

The Shorewomen return to action tomorow with a 4:00 p.m. match against Northwestern (MN) in Hilton Head, SC.
