Mules Edge Shorewomen, 5-4
Hossick & Bull Wins in Singles, Doubles

ALLENTOWN, PA -- Host Muhlenberg College, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, edged visiting Washington College, the region's 12th-ranked team, 5-4, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Allentown, PA. The Mules (9-4, 8-2 Centennial) clinched the third seed in the Centennial Conference Playoffs with the win. The Shorewomen are now 10-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

The Shorewomen held a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Juniors Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) downed Caitie Druker and Sara Sutker, 8-4, at No. 2, while senior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) defeated Danielle Wilson and Lindsay Schmidt, 9-8(4), at No. 3. Muhlenberg won at No. 1 doubles as Jenn Powell and Carly Rotfeld bested junior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) and freshman Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School), 8-5.

The Shorewomen's two singles wins came at No 3, where Hossick defeated Rotfeld, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3, and at No. 4, where Bull was a 7-5, 6-3, winner over Sutker. Muhlenberg's Powell posted a 6-3, 7-6(0) win against Daciek at No. 1, Druker beat Barston, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2, Winston downed Palmer, 7-6(6), 6-1, at No. 5, and Jacquelyn Magner trumped Kelley at No. 6, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Winston's win at No. 5 was the final singles match to finish and gave the Mules the win.

The Shorewomen return to action Sunday with their regular season finale, a 10:00 a.m. Centennial Conference match at Franklin & Marshall.
