#19 Blue Jays Trip Up Shorewomen, 5-2
Daciek Posts Victory at No. 1 Singles

BALTIMORE, MD -- Host Johns Hopkins University, the 19th-ranked team in Division III and the fifth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, 5-2, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Baltimore. The Blue Jays improved to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in conference matches with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 10-3 and 5-2 with the loss.

Hopkins swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Anita Bhamidipati and Brittany Matava, ranked fourth in the Atlantic South region in doubles bested WC sophomore Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) and freshman Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School), 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, while Ellen Berlinghof and Yasmine Elamir, ranked eighth in the region in doubles, trumped senior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and junior Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School), 9-7, at No. 2. Abbie Dwyer and Debbie Blass added an 8-1 win over junior Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) and junior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) at No. 3.

Daciek opened singles by beating Matava, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1, to get Washington on the board, while Bhamidipati, the ninth-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South region, beat WC junior Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia), 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2. Elamir then clinched the match for Hopkins with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Palmer at No. 3. Hossick recorded Washington's second point with a 6-3, 6-4, victory over Dwyer at No. 4. Fifth and sixth singles were unfinished due to darkness. Berlinghof had won the first set at No. 5, 6-4, Bull had won the second set, 6-4, and the third set was tied at 6-6. Kelley had won the first set at No. 6, 7-6, Blass had won the second set, 7-6, and the third set was tied at 2-2.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Dickinson.
