2008 GETTYSBURG, PA -- Visiting Washington College improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play with a 7-2 Centennial Conference women's tennis win over host Gettysburg College this afternoon. The Shorewomen have now reached the 10-win mark in three of their last four seasons. The Shorewomen won at two of the three doubles spots to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Senior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and junior Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) blanked Katie Taylor and Meghan Kelly, 8-0, at No. 2, while junior Kristen Hossick (Ashton, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) and sophomore Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) defeated Shelly Gottesfeld and Mary McConnell, 8-3, at No. 3. Ali Moyer and Kelly Eurich were 8-6 winners over junior Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) and freshman Mary Kelley (Frederick, MD/Glenelg Country School) for Gettysburg at No. 1. Hossick beat Moyer, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles and Bull beat Gottesfeld at No. 4 to give Washington a 4-1 lead before Daciek clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Taylor at No. 1. Eurich then picked up Gettysburg's singles win with a 6-2, 6-3, win against junior Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) at No. 3. Kelley beat McConnell , 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 and Palmer defeated Kelly, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 to round out singles play. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins. |
