2007 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College women's tennis team, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, won its Centennial Conference opener today, defeating host Ursinus, 9-0. The Shorewomen improved to 3-3 overall with the win, while the Bears fell to 1-5. In doubles, junior Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and freshman Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's), ranked 27th in doubles in the Atlantic South, posted an 8-3 win at No. 1. Sophomore Lydia Bull (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Kent Place School) and sophomore Kate Barston (Darien, CT/Darien) were 8-1 winners at No. 2, while freshman Sarah Macht (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) and freshman Carrie Palmer (Dallas, TX/Greenhill School) posted a 6-1, retired, win at No. 3. In singles, Daciek, ranked 31st in the region in singles, posted a 6-2, 6-0, win at No. 1, Palmer was a 6-1, 6-0, winner at No. 2, junior Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Macht won 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4, Foster was a 6-0, 6-4, winner at No. 5, and sophomore Rebecca Davis (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) recorded a 6-4, 6-2, victory at No. 6. The Shorewomen open their home schedule tomorrow with a 9:00 a.m. match against Carnegie Mellon, the 10th-ranked team in all of Division III. |
