April 2 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team split a pair of home matches on Saturday at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen defeated Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference match, 6-3, and then fell to 28th-ranked Mary Washington, 7-2, Saturday night. The Shorewomen won at the top two double spots to take a 2-1 lead against Gettysburg. Freshman Allison Daciek (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) were 9-7 winners at No. 1, while junior Beth Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman Blake Leeser (Irvington, NY/Irvington) posted an 8-2 win at No. 2. Daciek won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to extend the Shorewomen's lead against the Bullets to 3-1. After Gettysburg's Ali Moyer won at No. 2, the Shorewomen went up 4-2 with Foster's 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3. Halpin clinched the victory for Washington with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4. Freshman Ryoko Sawada (Kushiro, Japan/Kushiro Koryo) provided the Shorewomen's sixth point of the match with an 8-6 win at No. 5 singles. Daciek and Halpin, ranked 25th in the Atlantic South in doubles, picked up the Shorewomen's first point against Mary Washington with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Daciek, ranked 36th in the region in singles, defeated Gayle Smith, the region's 44th-ranked singles player, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to provide Washington's other point against the Eagles.
