Shorewomen Compete at W&L Fall
Festival
Nakamura Picks Up Win in Singles, Two in Doubles
LEXINGTON, VA -- The Washington College women's
tennis team competed at the Washington & Lee Fall Festival in Lexington,
VA, yesterday and today. The tournament featured players from Bridgewater
and Division I Liberty, in addition to those from the host team.
Senior Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka
Jogakuin) won her opening singles match in the 1st Flight, defeating
Ashley Tucker of Mary Washington, 6-3, 6-4. She also teamed with
senior Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) to win a pair
of 1st Flight Doubles matches. The duo defeated Lora Farris and
Elizabeth Law of Washington & Lee, 8-3, in their first match
and Emily Brimer and Gayle Smith of Mary Washington, 8-3,
in their final match. Browder and Nakamura finished third in their flight,
losing only to Liberty's No. 1 team of ChanellMeijer and Jonita
Randolph by an 8-6 score.
Sophomore Sara Custis (Owings, MD/Northern)
notched a win for the Shorewomen in 6th Flight Singles. Custis upended
April Hermann of Liberty, 7-5, 6-4, in her second match.
The Shorewomen return to action next Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday at the East Coast Collegiate Invitational, hosted
by Old Dominion.
