22, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team won an important early-season Centennial Conference match this afternoon, defeating visiting Muhlenberg, 5-4, at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen and Mules shared the 2002 Centennial Conference Team Championship. The Shorewomen (4-1, 2-0 Centennial) lost two of the three doubles matches, but bounced back to win four of the six singles matches. WC's lone win in doubles came at No. 1, where juniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) posted an 8-3 win. In singles, Browder won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, while Nakamura won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2. Senior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) was a 6-1, 7-5 winner at No. 3 and sophomore Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) won 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6. The Shorewomen will play another key conference match Tuesday, hosting 29th-ranked Swarthmore at 3:30 p.m.
