2, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, opened their dual match schedule with a 7-2 win over Carnegie Mellon, the region's 11th ranked team, today at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen won all three doubles matches. Juniors Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin), ranked fourth in the region and ninth in Division III, cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 1. Senior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and junior Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won 8-5 at No. 2 and junior Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) and sophomore Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) won 8-3 at No. 3. WC also took four of the six singles matches. Browder, ranked 12th in the region in singles, won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1, while Nakamura and Hufnal cruised to identical 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Halpin picked up a win at No. 6, 6-2, 7-5. Washington returns to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. home match against St. Mary's (MD).
