11, 2002 WESTMINSTER, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen improved to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in Centennial Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of host Western Maryland this afternoon. The Shorewomen dropped a total of three games in doubles and five in singles. In doubles, the Shorewomen won all three matches by identical 8-1 scores. Sophomores Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) won No. 1, junior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and senior Erin Spatafore (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) won at No. 2, and freshman Samantha Halpin (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) and sophomore Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) won at No. 3. In singles, Browder (No. 1), Nakamura (No. 2), and Spatafore (No. 5) all won by 6-0, 6-0 counts. Hufnal posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, sophomore Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4, and Vouros won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. Centennial Conference home match against Franklin & Marshall.
