WC Falls to No. 12 Rhodes
Shore Duo Posts Upset in Doubles

HILTON HEAD, SC -- The Washington College Shorewomen fell to 3-1 this season with an 8-1 loss to Rhodes College, the 12th-ranked team in all of Division III, this afternoon in Hilton Head, SC. The match was the first of three the Shorewomen will play while on their spring break trip.

The Shorewomen, ranked 12th in the Atlantic South region, did post an upset win at No. 1 doubles against Rhodes, tied for third in the same region. Sophomores Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin), the region's 15th-ranked doubles team, defeated Laura Hoffmeister and Hennessy Howel by an 8-6 count. Hoffmeister and Howel are ranked fifth in the region and 19th in the nation in doubles. The victory marks the second consecutive match that Nakamura and Browder have defeated a higher-ranked doubles team.

The Shorewomen return to action in Hilton Head tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. match against Guilford.
