1, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen improved to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference with a 6-3 win against visiting Johns Hopkins this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shorewomen won all three doubles matches and split the singles matches to earn the win. In doubles, sophomores Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) improved their record to 10-0 this spring with an 8-0 win at No. 1. Junior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and senior Erin Spatafore (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) posted an 8-6 win at No. 2 and sophomores Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) won 9-8 (5) at No. 3. Browder won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Nakamura posted a 6-0, 1-0 (ret.) win at No. 2. The bottom three singles matches were limited to a single pro set and the Shorewomen came away with one of those matches; Hooks won 8-3 at No. 4 The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. match at Haverford.
