6, 2002 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College Shorewomen improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in Centennial Conference play with a 6-3 victory at Gettysburg College this afternoon. WC avenged a 5-4 loss to the Bullets in 2001 with the win. The Shorewomen won two of the three doubles matches. Sophomores Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) and Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) won 8-1 at No. 1 to improve to 12-0 this spring. Junior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) and senior Erin Spatafore (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) posted an 8-6 win at No. 2. Browder and Nakamura also captured the top two singles spots. Browder won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 and Nakamura won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Hufnal added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 and sophomore Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) was a 10-8 winner at No. 6 to account for the Shorewomen's other two points. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. conference match at Western Maryland.
