23, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen opened their 2002 dual match season with a 9-0 sweep over visiting Carnegie Mellon today at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Tartans are tied for 30th in the national ITA rankings for Division III schools. In singles, sophomore Ne'ko Browder (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, sophomore Shoko Nakamura (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Jogakuin) won 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, junior Devon Hufnal (Dover, DE/Dover) won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3, sophomore Linda Hooks (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, senior Erin Spatafore (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5, and sophomore Christina Vouros (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. The Shorewomen easily won all three doubles matches. Browder and Nakamura won 8-1 at No. 1, Hufnal and Spatafore won 8-1 at No. 2, and Hooks and Vouros won 8-2 at No. 3. Washington returns to action Thursday with a 5:00 p.m. home match against Notre Dame (MD).
