2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD - The 800-yard freestyle relay team of senior Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), senior Nicole Stanton (Columbia, MD/Hammond), sophomore Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) and freshman Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) set the Casey Swim Center pool record as host Washington College downed visiting Goucher College, 134-84, in non-conference women's swimming action tonight at the Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen, who participated in the final two events of the meet as exhibitions, improve to 7-1 on the season, while the Gophers drop to 3-6. Washington has now won 45 straight non-conference meets. The Shorewomen, who swam the 800 freestyle relay as an exhibition, set the pool record with a time of 8:10.68. Glasser became the Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer of all-time in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:25.12. Freshman Laura Lazenby (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) recorded a Washington College season best time of 5:02.82 in the 400 individual medley. Stanton placed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.10, while Gerhart captured the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:02.16. Morse took home victory in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.60, sophomore Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) grabbed the top spot in the 100 backstroke at 1:05.44 and junior Cara Choplin (West Deptford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) garnered first in the 500 freestyle in 5:38.55. Sophomore Liz Thomas (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) was the top finisher in the 100 breaststroke, an event Washington swam as an exhibition, at 1:13.65. The 200 medley relay team of Smith, sophomore Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), Thomas and Morse finished first with a time of 1:57.38. Smith finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.88, Gerhart was second in the 50 freestyle at 26.22, Eisele placed second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.67 and Stanton finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:41.49. Junior Brittany Siburt (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) placed second in the 400 individual medley in 5:14.23 and junior Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) was second in the 100 backstroke at 1:06.66. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference home meet versus Randolph-Macon.
