2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College freshman outfielder Leigh Carbutt (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) has been named the East Region Player of the Week by Division III Softball - The Newsletter for the week ending March 15, 2009. Carbutt, who was also named the Centennial Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, batted a team best .563 (18-for-32) in helping the Shorewomen go 5-4 on their trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. She reached base in all nine games, had seven consecutive multi-hit performances, scored seven runs, roped five doubles, hit a home run and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base chances. Carbutt slugged .813 and had a .588 on-base percentage. She was also a perfect 9-for-9 in fielding chances. Carbutt hit the game-winning three run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 4-4 tie versus Penn State-Berks on March 8 as Washington won 10-4, capping a 3-for-4, three run and three RBI performance. Against Penn State-Harrisburg on March 11, she forced a runner out at second base from centerfield to help short circuit a PSU-Harrisburg rally in a game the Shorewomen won 7-3. Versus Regis on March 12, she was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, tying the game on an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and scoring the game-winning run later in the frame. |
